Contributor’s guide:

Google Reader Help

1. Log into Google Reader using your Gmail Username and password.

2. In the left pane, you have a button called ADD SUBSCRIPTION. Click that and add the URL of your favorite blogs. For example, to add இராம. கி’s வளவு blog,  just input the URL http://valavu.blogspot.com/
3. Whenever, there is a new post in the blog in your subscription list, it will be shown in the ALL ITEMS page. This page can be thought of like your Inbox in mail account. So instead of reading blog posts through blog portal sites, or by visiting blog by blog you can read them all at one page.
4. Each item in your google reader has the option to star, share and tag. Tags can be thought of like folders in mail accounts. You can use these tags to categorise the posts for later reading. Some examples of tags would be cinema, kids, computers etc., Stars can be considered like gmail stars or yahoo flags in mail accounts. when you share a post, all these shared posts will be publicly available for your friends in a google hosted URL. This way, your friends can read the posts you would recommend. This public URL can be seen by clicking the SHARED ITEMS link in the left side pane.
5. Apart from the shared items URL, you can have separate public URLs for your starred items, tagged items. This can be enabled by making these feeds too public. To do this

follow Manage subscriptions (left pane bottom) – > Tags and then click on the share marks for each tag and shared items.

Procedure to submit to Maatru!

1. Read blog posts in your Google Reader whenever you feel like.

2. Click the share marks in good posts that you would like to share. If you think a particular shared post is exceptionally well-written / useful then add a star mark to it.  If you

think the post subject fits into a category like cinema, book, music etc., then tag it. For a list of Maatru! approved tags, see Maatru! tagging guide . You are free

to add any tag you like for your convenience and personal use. But Maatru! would show tags matching to this list only. Irrespective of having a tag or non-matching tag, your

shared post will still be showcased in Maatru!. Also, a post will be showcased in Maatru! only when you share it. Just starring or tagging would not add it to Maatru ! if the Share

mark is not clicked.

3. We can collect yor shared items either every hour or once a day. Currently, Maatru! can fetch only your last 20 shared items. So do not share more than 20 posts within an

hour or if you share so, please visit the Maatru! ping URL for you manually. We will provide you with this URL. If your post is already shared by someone, then fine. If you had

given a additional matching tag, then it would be inserted with the already showcased post. If you had starred a shared item, in Maatru! a star would be displayed besides the post

title. The more people star a item, the more stars would be shown in Maatru! site and hence visitors to our site can identify good posts easily.

1. I cannot share posts daily or often. Is it ok?

– It’s fine. We expect that when more number of people join with us to share posts the site would automatically get updated regularly.

2. How many posts should I share daily?

There are no minimum or maximum number of posts. However, you would realise that it takes atleast a minute to share and submit the items to Maatru! So, with due respect

to your time and effort, do share only posts that are decently well-written, of use to someone atleast. Please do not indiscriminately share all the posts you come across.

3. What kind of posts can i share?

– We strongly request you not to share posts which might be considered கும்மி, மொக்கை, spam, junk, test posts, advertisements, chain mails, cut-copy-paste posts from magazines

& blogs, chat posts, group posts (addressing a list of friends for which they could have written a email instead), time pass posts, pornography, image forwarding posts, hate posts

against any person-community-entity, posts written in unparlimentary words,

4. What if I don’t find a appropriate tag?

– If you feel, the Maatru! tags don’t match the post subject, it’s ok to share them without a tag. If you repeatedly come across posts with a particular subject, do let us know the

tag suggestions which we would try to add ASAP.  We try not to go for too niche tags.

5. How many items can i star?

– Please do not add too many star marks. A ratio of 1 star or less to 10-15 shared posts would be ok. Once in a while you might come across too many good posts together.

It’s ok to give more stars once in a while. But please do not go for more stars regularly.

– Never star your own blog posts

– When you star fellow Maatru! members, let it have more than twice the quality of other items you star. Else, we may be accused of self-promotion and groupism.

6. What if i want to stop contributing, due to any reason?

Fine. Let us know. We will be grateful for the contributions you made so far.

7. What if someone has shared a post already?

We can display how many people shared each post. So, your extra share would add value to that post. do share. it wouldn’t show two times in maatru. and if u have added extra tags

for that post it will be added.

8. How are my tags synced in Maatru! ?

after u tag go to manage subscriptions – tags – and change the Maatru! approved tags to public settings. this u need to do only once for a tag.

9. what if i don’t like a post / object for a post that appeared in Maatru! ?

Write to the Maatru! contributor group. we will have open discussion like Wikipedia and if needed we will remove it with the approval of one who shared. Conversely, your share

will not be removed without your consent even if someone else objects. But you should be willing to discuss the merit of the posts you shared.
